I Have No Idea What's in the Amazon Bag

I am terrible at guessing games.

Not regular terrible. Impressively terrible.

Give me a game of Headbanz and everyone else will have figured out giraffe in six questions while I'm still asking things like, "Does it have teeth? Does it live in the United States? Could I reasonably keep one in my house?"

Amazon packages aren't much better

I'll pick one up off the front steps and try my darndest to remember what the heck I ordered.

Underwear?

Door stoppers?

Winter gloves?

Absolutely no idea.

And apparently, this is also how a lot of people feel when they open QuickBooks (but not quite as much fun).

They know there's something in there. They have clues. Money came in. Money went out. The bank account has numbers in it.

But what does it actually mean?

That's where guessing stops being particularly useful.

You don't need to become a bookkeeper. You don't even need to understand every strange thing QuickBooks is doing.

But you should be able to open the bag.

You should know what your business is bringing in, where the money is going, what you actually made, and whether the numbers you're look at can be trusted.

Because "I think it's probably underwear" is a perfectly acceptable way to approach an Amazon package.

Your financials deserve slightly better.
